I have the same issue. When I shutdown my PC via GUI the "ubuntu-screen" appears and nothing more happens. But this bug can be reproduced only if Opera browser open during shutdown process. If I close Opera before shutdown PC, it power off successfully. P.S. I also have fglrx driver installed. P.P.S. "sudo shutdown -P now" always work fine.
