mainline kernel can suspend & resume, but has some weird issues (with X
server interaction?):

-gnome-shell session falls back to fallback session, using llvmpipe instead of 
radeon; and complains about 3840x1080 desktop (dual 1920x1080 screens) being 
larger than maximum allowed 1920x1920 resolution.  some weird video driver 
thing?
-usb input devices don't work, despite showing up in lsusb
