Ah, thanks for the info.  Are the libtiff packages still the ones apt is
complaining about?

If so, it might help to install them directly with dpkg.

  cd /tmp
  apt-get download libtiff4 libtiff4:i386
  sudo dpkg -i libtiff4*deb

And then see if apt is any happier.  I've just seen a couple bugs that
needed that workaround, so that comes to mind.  But I suppose that might
be worth as much as my first idea...
