(Subscribing Jose so reply is seen) Jose: If you are going to hand install the NVIDIA binary driver then I would look at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/NvidiaManual because there are some things on that page (like disabling the Ubuntu NVIDIA drivers) that it is not clear that you are doing and they can come back to haunt you later down the line (e.g. when you reboot)...
