I remove /etc/rc2.d/S19cupsys and i do "invoke-rc.d cupsys" with a
system call when load my X program.. I work in kiosko mode with only one
program running. If you don´t have this option to start cups, I
recommend that you make an script that execute this at at the beginning
of Xsession, it does not matter if start more of once. To probe that
this really work, remove /etc/rc2.d/S19cupsys (if you load rc2) and
probe start the service from the Xsession in an Xterm... and you will
see that the "pipe", "the open files" will not accumulate. I´m sorry by
my english...
