Same Problem!
I Have a Matrox G200, on a Pentium 1Ghz and I Installed 'googleearth'
package as sugested above.
I also checked the xorg.conf:

and even added the Frame Buffer Option (which totally crashed my X, so I
reverted)
I'm simply not able to start GGEarth, it totally crashes my X. (Retunrs
to Login window.
Also tried to do the same on another PC and diferent Video card, Same
result.... (This one was a Compaq Desktop)
