It looks like when you were running lucid you had manually installed vlc
from a ppa.  The supported lucid version of vlc was 1.0.6-1ubuntu1.x,
but you had 1.1.13-1~ppa1; even if that's from the official vlc ppa,
unfortunately it is not an upgrade path that Ubuntu tests, so can give
no guarantees that upgrading from that will work.  If you still think
this is an important bug I would suggest discussing it with the vlc
project.
