@Alexander Ast, attached is the xsession-errors that resulted from a
condition 2 problem (background, with title bar, red network icon, and
no cursor,). ctrl-alt-bckspc corrected problem.

Line # 3 in xsession-errors:
gnome-session[2393]: WARNING: Failed to start app: Unable to start application: 
Failed to execute child process "/usr/lib/at-spi/at-spi-registryd" (No such 
file or directory)

for this error:  the directory /usr/lib/at-spi does not exist, but the
directory /usr/lib/at-spi2-core does exist, and the file /usr/lib/at-
spi2-core/at-spi2-registryd does exist.
