I've encountered something similar to this bug with my Toshiba NB205 netbook, only it's affecting the screen on the netbook itself. It was working fine before, then after a recent update, the display won't, well...display at the correct resolution (1024x600). Trying to force that resolution through xrandr gives... well, a picture of the netbook's monitor after forcing 1024x600 as the resolution is attacthed.
