Same issue with a Sony VIAO VGN-NS31M : Kernel Panic during install.
I was able to install 12.04 with noacpi and acpi=off but it would need a real
solution...
Now I'm still having problems when plunging/unplugging the charger => Kernel
panic !
My kernel : 3.2.0.27-generic
