If the RAM usage is too large, does ubuntu not swap memory by default?

$ grep swap /etc/fstab 
# swap was on /dev/sda5 during installation
UUID=b1f2278a-3dbc-4df1-a8a3-8b0c13ad7296 none            swap    sw            
  0       0

$ swapon -s 
Filename                                Type            Size    Used    Priority
/dev/sda5                               partition       974844  6220    -1
