I've just hit the same problem after the recent Gutsy network-manager upgrade to 0.6.5-0ubuntu2 (still running the same kernel as when it was working OK).
On my ThinkPad X60, however, I can force it to connect by toggling the kill switch on and off. It still seems to take 45 seconds to connect though, where it used to take under 10.
