Any progress on this? I have noticed the current version of digikam
included in Ubuntu 12.04 has an option to add video file extensions, but
adding .mkv here does not appear to have any effect.

I think it is a bit dangerous to have digikam show a folder as empty
when it actually contains video files. This can lead the user to delete
an appearently empty folder/album. Hereby causing data loss.
