Sorry for the bad tidings... Made use of the new-to-me feature: Lid was closed about 10 minutes, opened the lid, moved the mouse, and the mouse was immediately visible - the screen never returned from 'black.' Logging into a new tty shell showed nothing notable (diffing a before & after ps aux)
