Patrick Morris, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number>

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available
following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test
the kernel in the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom.
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel
version specifically you tested and remove the 'needs-upstream-testing'
tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the
tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the
'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, please comment as to why
specifically you were unable to test it and add the tag: 'kernel-unable-
to-test-upstream'.

Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.

** Description changed:

Unable to get any USB function, or recognition of various devices, on any USB
port. Have tried, wireless mouse, PNY flash drive, IOmega external HD, Android
phone, Sony Camera usb mode, wired microsoft usb mouse.
- Have tried all 8 ports. Has 6 ports on back that are directly connected to
main board, 2 on front directly connected to a small board that has USB 2.0
marked Cable to the mainboard. USB's have power, charges phone, lights up light
on flash drive and external HD indicator light. System makes no indication of
recognition. Ran system testing application, and tested USB, failed in each
step.

  BIOS settings are currently:
USB emulation on, tried off and no boot
USB management on, tried off as well
- fast boot off, tried on
+ fast boot off, tried on
WiFi card is only pci slot used, pulled to test for interfering, but didn't
change

- I'm new to Linux world, so I'm not totally up to speed on what does what, or
how to check things that don't work.
- Hopefully someone knows what might be going on. I know I can maybe get a USB
pci card, or ditch the old system, but this is a budget project, as in wife
doesn't want me spending dollars on something she won't use. So I'd like to try
and diagnose the issue and fix if possible.
-
- Installed Ubuntu 11.10 on Dell Poweredge 400sc "server", with latest A10
- BIOS, 2.8MHz P4 Intel 875P Chipset I think. Board is an OEM version that
- resembles D875PBZ, but Intel can't offer much support that I can find
- since its OEM specific. It was installed from a CD, on a new hard drive
- that came out of my Buffalo Cloudstor, but it formatted of course, 1GB
- sata. CD and DVD burners are connected. Power button, and front lights,
- are through the mini board in front with the 2 USB's, and connect to the
- mainboard only through the USB cable connection. That's all I know, hope
- someone smarter than me knows what's going on. Thanks.
