Micah,
I have reinstalled Dapper Drake and re-tested with a couple of different
kernels and a couple of different DVDs, but cannot reproduce the problem.
It looks like either:
a) the DVDs I had, which read okay on the 233MHz Pentium box but not
on my Vaio were in some way corrupt; or
b) my Vaio has changed in some way since that time - perhaps the
firmware
for the DVD drive or the BIOS for the system, although I have no
recollection
of changing the firmware or the BIOS. (The system was in for
repair at one
point, and the techs might have changed something then.)
In any case, the problem seems to have gone away, so I'll let you get on to
something more useful than chasing a ghost.
Regards, Graeme.
