Another observation: when setting the ETPS/2 with 'synclient Clickpad=1', you lose the setting when the computer shuts down. So you need to add the command to the .bashrc file of every user who has a desktop login. I think it is better not to place the command in /etc/bash.bashrc, because you don't need or want root/superuser to have the setting.
