I have this problem with a PC Specialist Genesys IV which is based on a Clevo
laptop. The mother board is reported as
baseboard-manufacturer: CLEVO CO.
baseboard-product-name: W240EU/W250EUQ/W270EUQ
baseboard-version : V3.0

The script in #7 gives
            OperationRegion (IGDM, SystemMemory, ASLB, 0x2000)
            Field (IGDM, AnyAcc, NoLock, Preserve)
which, if I understand correctly means that the cadl_hack_brightness script
should work as is. However when I run it I get

dd: writing `/dev/mem': Bad address

and when I add debug to show $addr it is 3660685688

Running Ubuntu 12.10 alpha with unity if that is of any relevance.
Any help would be much appreciated.
