Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

i'm trying to reinstall kubuntu 7.04 because gcc/g++ suddenly fails to
compile any C++ code, and no amount of uninstall/reinstall is fixing the
problem (g++ failed with '::system is not declared' when cstdlib is
#included). However... i can't reinstall Kubuntu because at the
partition selection screen of the installer i get NO options. i cannot
choose anything, so i cannot reinstall! So i tried launching ubiquity
with the --old-partitioner option, thinking that might work around the
problem. That caused this crash, though.

My partitions look like so:

fdisk -l /dev/sda

Disk /dev/sda: 80.0 GB, 80026361856 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 9729 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 1 510 4096543+ 83 Linux
/dev/sda2 * 511 5088 36772785 c W95 FAT32 (LBA)
/dev/sda3 5089 9729 37278832+ f W95 Ext'd (LBA)
/dev/sda5 5089 5154 530113+ 82 Linux swap / Solaris
/dev/sda6 5155 6460 10490413+ 83 Linux
/dev/sda7 6461 9729 26258211 83 Linux

This is a dual-core intel CPU. i've been running Kubuntu on it since 6+
months with no particular problems until my g++ stopped working, at
which point i stumbled across this bug when attempting a re-install.

i get this error in syslog, which might have something to do with it:
