** Description changed: Ubuntu 12.04, AMD Phenom II X4 955 Processor. I've begun noticing over the past few days that when I leave my PC for a while, the CPU fan is running full blast when I come back. I installed Psensor to check what was going on. When I'm using the PC for light work such as browsing, the CPU runs at around 37-40C. But when I leave it for a while and come back (around an hour or so), I'm getting pretty consistent temperatures of around 46C. I have no programs running on it, and the screen is dark. Once I start using it again, the temp goes back down to between 37-40C - Now, I know 46C isn't that high, but I just find it strange that it runs - cooler when I'm using it, even for light work, than when it's sitting - idle. + Now, I know 46C isn't that high, but I just find it strange that it runs cooler when I'm using it, even for light work, than when it's sitting idle. + --- + AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.24. + ApportVersion: 2.0.1-0ubuntu11 + Architecture: amd64 + ArecordDevices: + **** List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices **** + card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 0: VT1708S Analog [VT1708S Analog] + Subdevices: 2/2 + Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 + Subdevice #1: subdevice #1 + AudioDevicesInUse: + USER PID ACCESS COMMAND + /dev/snd/controlC1: michael 1663 F.... pulseaudio + /dev/snd/controlC0: michael 1663 F.... pulseaudio + CRDA: + country NO: + (2402 - 2482 @ 40), (N/A, 20) + (5170 - 5250 @ 40), (N/A, 20) + (5250 - 5330 @ 40), (N/A, 20), DFS + (5490 - 5710 @ 40), (N/A, 27), DFS + Card0.Amixer.info: + Card hw:0 'SB'/'HDA ATI SB at 0xfe5f4000 irq 16' + Mixer name : 'VIA VT1708S' + Components : 'HDA:11060397,1043836c,00100000' + Controls : 44 + Simple ctrls : 21 + Card1.Amixer.info: + Card hw:1 'Generic'/'HD-Audio Generic at 0xfe6bc000 irq 53' + Mixer name : 'ATI R6xx HDMI' + Components : 'HDA:1002aa01,00aa0100,00100200' + Controls : 6 + Simple ctrls : 1 + Card1.Amixer.values: + Simple mixer control 'IEC958',0 + Capabilities: pswitch pswitch-joined penum + Playback channels: Mono + Mono: Playback [on] + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 + HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=b1a007af-1772-4b04-89eb-8b8ab1a80aa5 + InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.10 "Oneiric Ocelot" - Release amd64 (20111012) + MachineType: System manufacturer System Product Name + NonfreeKernelModules: fglrx + Package: linux (not installed) + ProcEnviron: + TERM=xterm + PATH=(custom, no user) + LANG=en_US.UTF-8 + SHELL=/bin/bash + ProcFB: 0 VESA VGA + ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.2.0-27-generic root=UUID=73e82e1b-e775-415b-879c-9496c66b62c8 ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-27.43-generic 3.2.21 + RelatedPackageVersions: + linux-restricted-modules-3.2.0-27-generic N/A + linux-backports-modules-3.2.0-27-generic N/A + linux-firmware 1.79 + RfKill: + 2: phy2: Wireless LAN + Soft blocked: no + Hard blocked: no + Tags: precise running-unity + Uname: Linux 3.2.0-27-generic x86_64 + UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to precise on 2012-08-03 (2 days ago) + UserGroups: adm admin cdrom dialout lpadmin plugdev sambashare + dmi.bios.date: 01/07/2010 + dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. + dmi.bios.version: 0602 + dmi.board.asset.tag: To Be Filled By O.E.M. + dmi.board.name: M4A785TD-V EVO + dmi.board.vendor: ASUSTeK Computer INC. + dmi.board.version: Rev X.0x + dmi.chassis.asset.tag: Asset-1234567890 + dmi.chassis.type: 3 + dmi.chassis.vendor: Chassis Manufacture + dmi.chassis.version: Chassis Version + dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvr0602:bd01/07/2010:svnSystemmanufacturer:pnSystemProductName:pvrSystemVersion:rvnASUSTeKComputerINC.:rnM4A785TD-VEVO:rvrRevX.0x:cvnChassisManufacture:ct3:cvrChassisVersion: + dmi.product.name: System Product Name + dmi.product.version: System Version + dmi.sys.vendor: System manufacturer ** Attachment added: "AcpiTables.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1033487/+attachment/3250008/+files/AcpiTables.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1033487 Title: CPU goes warm when idle, and display is off To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1033487/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
