Rechecked again. Problem confirmed. Can't read dual layer DVD when
device associated with packet writing pktcdvd module.
** Changed in: linux-source-2.6.20 (Ubuntu)
Status: New => Confirmed
** Description changed:
Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.20
- when a user mounts a CD (or DV, and affect mostly dual layer DVD-ROM)
directly from the device (/dev/hda, for instance) which is still bound to
/dev/pktcdvd0. It seems the kernel 2.6.20-16-lowlatency in my case) is only
able to read to the size of the /dev/pktcdvd0 device, which leads to the end of
the cd being temporarily unreadable.
+ Binding a DVD device to the pktcdvd driver make it unable du read dual
+ layer DVD. Reading beside the 4GB limit cause read errors.

After “pktsetup -d pktcdvd0″ and perhaps a remount of /dev/hda, everything
returns to normal.
The issue has already been discussed with older kernels
