Running linux-image-3.6.0-030600rc1-generic 3.6.0-030600rc1.201208022056 gave the same result --- freezup after entering username and password at the login screen --- but was even worse, because rebooting back to linux-image-3.2.0-27-generic 3.2.0-27.4 did not restore the ability to work with two screens! Now 3.2.0-27 also freezes at login. Even disconnecting power and removing the battery for thirty seconds did not fix it. Later I will try removing the battery for a longer period.
