This happened again on testing Quantal daily iso: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/20120809.1/quantal-desktop-i386.iso on a live USB non persistent key, test: http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/219/builds/20579/testcases/1303/results. The first time you boot the live USB persistent key, everything is ok, when you reboot you get the overlaped icons.
