It is possible to install the latest mainline kernel[0] on a precise or
quantal installation.  To do so, Download the test kernel .deb
files(both linux-image and linux-image-extra).


Then you can install it with:
sudo dpkg -i packagename.deb

A reboot is then required to boot into the new kernel.

After power-on, you can hold the shift key to access the GRUB2 menu.
>From there you can select which kernel to boot.  Once tested, you can
remove the mainline kernel with sudo dpkg -r kernel-package-name
