Updated as of 8/12/2012 still fails to connect to wireless WPA. Wait minutes,
nothing happens.
Using System Settings, click through several menus with big pauses, click
connect, takes about 40 seconds to connect.

Workaround:
Boot, doesn't connect automatically, open terminal
sudo dhclient wlan0
wait 5 seconds, Ctrl-c
goes right ahead and connects.
Much much faster and much less keystrokes than System Settings or right click
on network applet.

dmesg shows authenticate being issued as soon as Ctrl-c issued. Kernel
then goes right ahead and connects.
