because sane runs in the same address space ( Bug #564357 ) there is
nothing we can do to stop a buggy driver from corrupting simple scan's
address space and making it crash in the most fascinating ways.

from experience I can say most comparable issues are caused by bad
drivers. simple scan is to blame some times but it is reasonable to
blame the hardware and the driver by default.

that link also serves the purpose to make it clear that nothing will
happen without your initiative, no matter if the problem is in simple
scan or sane.
