Hi Brian, I also reported this problem long time ago. I made a lot of investigations, cause it seem this problem is not strictly related to ubuntu, but can be found in other distros also. The "nice method" i used to fix this problem in ubuntu was to add a kernel panic reboot 3 secs (if kernel panic, than reboot in 3 secs).
Exactly same problem i had with centos (tested on same machine). The freebsd 6.1 works perfect on that machine now, and i quit using ubuntu on it. The problem apeared when the server had high trafic/load than it would trow a random kernel panic, it was never same kernel panic, fhurther more i assume it may be an apache problem, installed/reinstalled/recompiled apache several times with different options, still the same. Changed ram from non-ecc to ecc, still same problem. While in freebsd it worked like a charm from the early begining. With ubuntu server uptime was near 10-15 max days, with freebsd it is now 70 days.
