I think it's important to note that the problem occurs with latest compiz versions 1:0.9.7.8-ubuntu1.4 (precise-proposed) and 1:0.9.7.8-ubuntu1.2 (precise-updates). It does not, however, occur with version 1:0.9.7.8-0ubuntu-1vvpreproposed2 (precise).
The whole PUT and GRID plugins are misbehaving. I can't move a window from one monitor to the other, much less from one desktop to the other. Just as a side note: the preproposed package of compiz delivers very much less issues as the proposed does. The only gain I experienced so far from proposed package is less cpu usage than preproposed.
