More information about my problem (which may or may not be the same as
the submitter's).
* Entirely repeatable.
* It happens at boot...
* ... but only if running on battery power, not if running on mains power.
* Unchecking "Enable Wireless" and checking it again fixes it.
* The fault no longer occurs with the Quantal kernel:
$ uname -a
Linux tenerife 3.5.0-10-generic #10-Ubuntu SMP Mon Aug 13 15:23:58 UTC
2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
