I had a xfdesktop segfault on a very similar install/system as nakki. I tried everything above to no avail. What worked for me was deleting ~/.config/menu folder. It had created a seemingly infinite (recursive?) folder/file combo that crashed the menu, then the panel and seemingly xfdesktop I should still have copies of these folders/files and would be happy to answer anyone's questions about this.
