I have a similar problem with my vostro 1320. I cant't connect by WiFi. The shabby solution that I use is doing:
sudo ifconfig eth1 up sudo dhclient eth1 while I'm connected by LAN. Then, sometimes, wifi come to my laptop. For me that is magic because unfortunately I don't know very much about Linux (neither about English...sorry!)
