Public bug reported:

Unlike on my Acer Travelmate, where I sporadically get the Network to
start, I havé not yet managed to start the network on my desktop PC.
There is nothing special and Ubuntu 10.10 always worked until few months
ago, where it stopped initializing the network interface autmatically.
Doing this manually (ifconfig eth0 down;ifconfig eth0 up) did work.

I wanted to upgrade to 12.04 and downloaded the 64bit CD image, started
this and since 4 hours now was not able to setup the network
configuration at all.

My PC :

corei7
Network : Realtek RTL8111/8168B Controller

The network applet shows that the "Wired Network is disconnected" all the time.
Reading several posts trying the hack did not work.

nm-tools tells me that the Driver is r8169 and State is unavailable.

** Affects: xubuntu-default-settings (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
