I'ts the same problem for me. I'm using a USB hard drive (Fantom
Drives, Green Drive, 1TB)

I even formatted the drive using Ubuntu 12.04 itself. That is, in Unity
Launcher on leftside, I right-clicked the drive icon and selected
Format. I did tests using both EXT4 and FAT32. Same results.

As I type this Ubuntu 12.04 "Backup" has no problems writing to the
drive. I have no problem writing to the drive in the Terminal. If I open
Gedit and save to the drive, no problem...

But, anything I try in Nautilus (Create New Folder, Drag & Drop Copy)
gives the error: "The destination is read-only."
