Thinkfan is 0.7.3-1, yes.

I tried killing thinkfan. It's the same but worse; the fan is running
slightly slower, and the processors overheat, probably faster.

This also serves as confirmation that the problem hasn't gone away since
I first wrote (I had stopped doing any computation on this machine, nor
allowing ondemand power consumption, so I've avoided the symptoms for a
while).
