Which version of Ubuntu are you using?
The "canon" backend is only used for canon printers that use the gutenprint
driver, do you have a printer that uses the gutenprint driver? What is the name
of your printer model? The output of the printingbug info script will tell us
all this information and more. Please attach the output of the printingbuginfo
script, it can be found here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PrintingBugInfoScript.
