I've been trying to solve what looks like this issue on our platform
also.  It happens consistently on a laptop with a VGA monitor connected,
if I undock and close the lid (which suspends to memory), and then dock
and open the lid.  After looking at various state information I see
this:

xrandr thinks the monitor is attached and enabled
 putting in a bunch of debug code into the driver it looks like while the 
system is resuming
