Based on this (old, I know..)
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kino/+bug/6290/comments/83 I
changed my /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-firewire.conf to

#blacklist ohci1394
#blacklist sbp2
#blacklist dv1394
#blacklist raw1394
#blacklist video1394

blacklist firewire-ohci
blacklist firewire-sbp2

and ran sudo update-initramfs -k all -u (source: http://forum.ubuntu-
fi.org/index.php?topic=41444.0)

That should disable the new stack and enable the old legacy stuff.

I restarted. /dev/fw0 was gone but I wasn't able to find anything new
there.

dmesg didn't react now at all, not even when disconnecting the cable.
Will revert the changes now.
