Oh, I forgot to say: try the workaround in the first post of that bug.
It's running vlc with LIBOVERLAY_SCROLLBAR=0 , but you also have to
delete a config file first, once you've hit the bug.  Try the brief
instructions there, and if that helps, then this is a dupe of that bug.
