I faced this error on Ubuntu 12.04. on my encrypted home partition. I noticed it when I tried to backup files with rsync. Also Firefox was broken somewhat. It could no longer load any bookmarks. I also had a full hard disc before which might have caused the problem. Now rsync seems to work - but there are still the error messages in the syslog - which is intended as fas as I understood. I wonder if someone could analyze the original problem that caused all those zero size files. I guess the initializer was my full disc. I leave this comment so that other users can find this bug report that came up with the same symptoms as I did. Thanx to the kernel crew!
