Ok, so I filed a kernel bug

Whoever said that was wrong in this case I think. It's up to Ubuntu what
backports it ships in its 3.2 kernels

Status sent to "resolved invalid".

So... seems to me this needs to get resolved in an LTS, given that an
increasing number of laptops are using this chip.  Am I wrong?
