I have the same problem in Lucid Lynx 10.04 (dual boot with Win7)
The message is 
udevd-work[326]: open/dev/null failed: No such file or directory
at the start-up screen

Sometimes it feezes in the black screen (for half an hour...) and I have to 
shut down manually and reboot. This does not happen often.
I get this message every single time I open my laptop; it's annoying, it takes 
time until you get to the login page.
I THINK it appeared one day that I was working on Windows and they crashed. Not 
sure though, I have it more than 6 months.

I thank in advance the person(s) who will fix it  :)
