The solution described in
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=636216 -- dragging the small
black top bar -- is absolutely not obvious to me.
I just want to add that you can change the primary display programmatically
(and driver-independent) using xrandr:
$ xrandr --output VGA1 --primary
--
