@Steve Here is the dmesg output of such a boot.
The graphics board seems to have a TV out indeed, but it has never been used. Only the TFT flatscreen is connected via VGA out. If the monitor is turned on only at the end of the boot, it would explain of course the observed behaviour that the monitor receives no input signal during boot.
