Well that report is old but the problem still there even with the new
grub 2.0

Tested on a system with 2 pata & 1 sata; each having a different grub
version due to several installed distros ( no legacy grub, only 1.98+).
With such config only one mbr grub is the "master" (need to update it to
get an updated grub menu if the other distro have had kernel upgrades).

So if the booting grub (related to the hdd selected into the bios) is
not on the same hdd than the distro loaded, now grub 2.0 is so confused
(cant find the pathes) that the process is killed even before getting
the grub menu (before grub 2.0, a black screen was shown for a while
before getting the menu).
