I have the same problem. It only randomly freezes when I have webpages actively playing flash videos (firefox and chrome). When the system freezes, I can't move my mouse or keyboard, existing terminal output also freezes and I can't even ssh into my machine.
In addition, my HDD LED keeps flashing, which means my disk should be spinning really hard. I've scanned my disk, but found no bad sector. I also mounted /tmp as tmpfs, and redirect firefox temp folder to /tmp. I believe flash buffer videos in /tmp as well (correct me if I am wrong).
