Feisty with Konqueror (Kubuntu). Same here, but with a Sony Ericsson W200i.
When trying to unmount from desktop via right click > safe eject (sorry, don't know what's the menu entry in english) it will take a couple of minutes and then fail, informing me nicely of lots of processes apparently using the device. Among others, getty, all running on root. However, lsof difers... if I wait long enough eventually the copy finishes and I can unplug...
