Yes, looking for this when booting the liveCD with splash.  Please
append this boot option:

  plymouth.debug=file:/run/plymouth-debug.log

and attach the resulting file.

If vt1 works, this itself is interesting to know.  I would have thought
the same framebuffer was used for console as for plymouth+X.
