Ubuntu 9.04 "Jaunty Jackalope" is no longer supported. Also, you
mentioned that the problem is solved on Ubuntu 9.10 "Karmic Koala" with
the patch. Ubuntu 9.10 is also no longer supported but HAL has been
replaced with udev.

With a clean install of Jaunty, wireless works fine. Once the HAL
update is installed, the wireless connection fails (network manager
shows greyed out box).
