upstream kernel.
@Joseph(comment #7): This issue started happening only very recently - a
few days ago. My kern.log mentions this error message already on "Sep 14
14:29:45" with the same kernel as above ("3.2.0-30-generic", see also
attachment "kernel-bug-jpeg-3"). So most likely, the kernel version
before that was still working properly.
At the moment, I have troubles reproducing this problem reliably. The
same images that caused the system crash earlier, do not necessarily
cause a crash after system reboot. It is still there, though (see
attached file "kernel-bug-jpeg-2").
@Matthias(comment #9): I agree with the problem you describe in comment #9. In
fact this is also a problem I have on my laptop. It is different from my above
bug report in that it is always reproducible with particular jpeg images - and
that only the X server crashes and one can login directly again (as you said).
