No. This is AFAIK a conscious decision to no clutter the icon and use
"symbolic" icons; and at the very least not related to that bug's fix.

Should definitely be confirmed by design though; I too would somewhat
like to see those.

Rather than the suggestions in description, it is more likely to be
"4G", "3G", etc. which already have icons.

That being said, this isn't going to be fixed for 12.10, we've already
missed the cutoff.
